Who I Am

Nearly Three Decades
in the Machine.

Substrate Labs was founded on the principle that critical systems should run on infrastructure you own and understand — not rented abstraction layers you can't inspect.

I'm a boutique operation, not a large firm — no account management layer, no bench of junior staff cutting their teeth on your project. Call it forward deployed engineering: I scope the work and I build it, embedded directly in your infrastructure rather than handing off a deliverable and disappearing.

My roots go back 29 years in computing: Linux systems administration, network architecture, security research, and the kind of low-level work that most shops never touch. I've spent a career building, breaking, and rebuilding systems across enterprise and industrial environments.

More recently, I've moved deep into artificial intelligence — not as a consumer of cloud APIs, but as a builder of custom models trained on domain-specific data and deployed on edge hardware. I train my own models. I write my own training pipelines. I deploy on hardware I control.

Whether you're a law firm that needs a private AI that never leaks client data, a resource company that needs hardened field infrastructure, or an individual who wants a personal AI system that actually belongs to you — I build it from the substrate up.
